Palms
Australia is an
independent Australian volunteer sending organisation with over 46 years
experience in recruiting, preparing, sending and supporting volunteers for work
overseas and in cross-cultural situations.
Palms responds to requests from international communities,
predominantly in the Pacific, Asia and Africa by sending skilled Australian volunteers abroad as part
of our skills exchange program. Exchanging
skills ensures the benefits are long term and sustainable for the overseas
community and the volunteer.
Palms’
independence is also our strength allowing us to focus on development as it
should be done, from the ground-up, free from party-political agendas and with
an understanding of the importance of relationship building and a respect for
all cultures.
Palms Australia's cross cultural preparation is second-to-none and our
specifically-tailored courses are now available to schools, businesses and
other development, mission, government or volunteering agencies.
Our
mission is to build the capacity of individuals and strengthen institutions
through the exchange of knowledge and skills between Palms Australia’s Global Volunteers and partner communities.
To engage
Australian communities and partner communities through Global Volunteers so
that each increases their awareness and enthusiasm to encourage just,
sustainable, interdependent and peaceful development
To
advance mutually enriching and challenging relationships of understanding,
acceptance and care, to the point of sharing worlds of meaning in the deepest
sense, with people of a culture different from one's own.
Yalari Limited is a not for profit organisation
dedicated to creating a national network of education opportunities for
Indigenous children. Founded through a
partnership between Indigenous educationalist, Waverley Stanley and investment
banker, Philip Latham, Yalari seeks funding from government, corporate and
individual benefactors to support its initiatives.
Yalari
has a target to raise over $12 million to support 250 Indigenous students over
the next 10 years to complete their higher school education at leading boarding
schools throughout Australia. In October 2005, Yalari launched
its first initiative, the Rosemary Bishop Scholarship, which supported
three students to attend Toowoomba Grammar School and The Glennie School in 2006.
In 2007, 15 additional Indigenous children have been awarded a scholarship to
attend boarding schools across the eastern states of Australia.
Yalari
aims to provide programs which break the cycles of poverty, abuse or other
misfortune by giving Indigenous children the opportunity for a first class
education through a full boarding school scholarship at the highest achieving
secondary schools in Australia.
The Ayui Foundation is a non-profit, non-denominational organisation in Chiang Rai
Thailand that works with young at-risk hilltribe people, promoting the importance
of education. The Auyi Foundation manages a hostel called ‘Baan Ayui’ for young Akha
people.
Ayui (pronounced ‘a-yeu’) is an Akha word for ‘older sister’ and ‘Baan Ayui’ means
‘our older sister’s house’. The hostel is based on the concept of a nurturing and
understanding older sister who provides guidance and support on all levels. Baan
Ayui supports teenagers who have little or no means of support, and helps them to
become confident young adults.
The Ayui Foundation empowers young Akha people with the skills needed to succeed
in a world where the odds can be against them, providing a positive teenage experience
and the chance to become happy, fulfilled adults with a secure future.
